Cave Base Agenda
Day 1: Participants will fly into Tampico International Airport. New arrivals will be picked up every few hours and driven to their hotel where they will spend their first night.
Day 2: After breakfast, around 9:00 AM, the entire expedition will depart for BASE camp, which is about a 4-hour drive. Once at base camp the team will be assigned their hotel rooms then regroup for an official welcome and Expedition briefing. Rappelling and extraction training will begin once the formalities are complete.
Day 3: The team will head up the mountain for their first assault on the cave. The drive will take approximately 1-hour as we wind our way up the dirt road to the cave.
After a short 15-minute hike through heavy forrest we will arrive at the cave. A few minutes will be devoted to first impression videos after which the staff will start the rigorous task of installing equipment. If all goes well we will prepare the first group for a 1,200-foot rappel to review the landing area.
It is during this rappel that you begin to understand the unique dynamics of the cave. At first you will feel that the walls are too close, yet as you rappel further the cave walls start to flare out. Half way down (opening altitude), you locate the landing area and start to get a better feel for what you are about to do.
Once at the bottom you will realize that there is truly only one place to land.
Day 4: After everyone has completed their rappel we will prepare to make our first jumps.
