Yahoo!

Project Details

Yahoo asked Aerial Extreme if we could come up with a unique way to help them market their emerging online information service.

After a brainstorming session with Yahoo officials we came up with a strategy to deliver on their marketing objectives. We would have the jumper make an online purchase of a mattress to land on while skydiving into a high profile football game at Stanford stadium.

Confident we could overcome all the technical issues we went right to work.

The schedule included:

  • Prepare the FAA paperwork for approval

  • Design and order a custom Yahoo parachute

  • Order a custom jumpsuit with name

  • Prepare the laptop with a hardened case for freefall

  • Fabricate a mounting platform to hold the laptop

  • Test the online ordering system

  • Hire a qualified pilot and plane

  • Safely test jump all the equipment

  • Organize the ground crew

The laptop case and modifications took a little work in order to make airworthy. Testing it was a multi-step process that we employed in order to keep the stunt jumper safe.

When the custom dual skin logo parachute arrived we began practice tests immediately, once confident we added the laptop and make more practice jumps.

The custom laptop mount took a bit of ingenuity to make airworthy. We fabricated a belly mount harness with a safely release system should the jumper need to jettison the case.

The Yahoo team was quite impressed with the demonstration of the ordering process and entire production.
